Osaka means "large hill" or "large slope" Osaka is the large port city and trade center on the Japanese island of Honshu. The west side of the city is open to Osaka Bay, and is otherwise completely surrounded by more than ten satellite cities, all of them in Osaka Prefecture. The city inhabited a larger area than any other city or village within Osaka Prefecture.

Osaka is situated in the humid subtropical climate zone. The city hardly sees snowfall during the winter. Spring in Osaka starts off mild, but ends up being hot and humid. The best time to visit the city for sightseeing is May as most days will be pleasantly fresh and moderately humid
